Goat meat is significant to the Jamaican economy. Goat meat is an aspect of agriculture that contributes to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). It offers a source of income for many Jamaican farm families while contributing to the home protein supply. Importantly, as a domestic animal, the care and management of goats is part of the livestock educational requirements for students pursuing the biological sciences, in particular agricultural science. The 4-H Clubs has incorporated the care and management of goats into its curriculum in order to develop an appreciation for its economic contribution as well as the excellent project options it presents to 4Hers.

The unit, Seed identification, creates a bond between the learner and his natural environment. The unit not only delivers content but also develops confidence, fine and gross motor skills, coordination, and flexibility. The 4-H Clubs has incorporated seed identification into its curriculum in order to develop an appreciation for the social as well as psychomotor development of their learners.
